Scientists debunked the myth of the Biblical miracle

The description of Joshua's prayer contains the following words: "Joshua called to the Lord on that day, in which the Lord God delivered the Amorites into the hands of Israel, when He defeated them in Gibeon, and they were beaten before the face of the children of Israel, and he said before the Israelites: stand still, sun, over Gibeon, and moon, over the valley of Aijalon! And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies".

The amazing astronomical phenomenon described in ancient texts occurred on October 30, 1207 BC, according to historical chronicles. This event has been considered one of the greatest mysteries of the Old Testament for centuries.

The centuries-old mystery of the biblical phenomenon has finally received a scientific explanation. Distinguished British scientists Colin Humphreys from Cambridge University and Graeme Waddington from Oxford conducted research that sheds light on the mysterious "miracle" from the Book of Joshua. The researchers concluded that ancient witnesses observed a rare solar eclipse.

In antiquity, when astronomical science was in its infancy, neither sages nor rulers could provide a rational explanation for this captivating celestial phenomenon. That is why it entered history under the poetic name "the sun standing still," capturing the imagination of many generations.
