Pakistan's National Security Council has given the army "complete freedom of action" to retaliate against India following yesterday's attack, reports Samaa TV.
This decision was made at an emergency NSC meeting held on May 7 at the official residence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Meeting participants emphasized the country's inherent right to self-defense, which is enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.
"Pakistan reserves the right to respond at any time, in any place, and in any manner of its choosing," the NSC statement said. The country's authorities noted that while Pakistan strives for peace in the region, it will not compromise on issues of national sovereignty and dignity.
Tensions between the countries sharply escalated after India announced on the evening of May 6 the conduct of military operation "Sindoor", during which missile strikes were carried out on nine alleged "terrorist infrastructure" targets in Pakistan territory and the Pakistani part of Kashmir. According to the Pakistani side, at least 26 civilians were victims of the attack, while none of the strikes targeted military facilities. In response, Pakistan's armed forces attacked five settlements in Indian territory and, according to their claims, shot down five Indian Air Force aircraft. According to Indian police information, ten people were killed as a result of the shelling of Kashmir. Official Delhi has not yet confirmed the information about the loss of aircraft.
