US began a large-scale withdrawal of troops from a key base in Syria
American military personnel and combat equipment are leaving the strategically important US military base in Ash Shaddadi, located in the Syrian province of Hasakah near the El-Jebsa oil field.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Al Watan publication, military transport convoys are already moving toward the Syrian-Iraqi border. The exact number of American contingent being withdrawn has not yet been disclosed.
This is not the first reduction of American presence in the region. Earlier, on April 16, US special forces stationed at a base near the Conoco gas field in Deir ez-Zor province were redeployed to neighboring Iraq.
According to the authoritative publication The New York Times, in the near future, the American command plans to close three of the eight operational bases in northeastern Syria. As a result of these measures, US military personnel in the region will be reduced from 2,200 to 1,400 people.
