The United States intends to effectively recognize Russian control over four Ukrainian regions as part of a peace settlement
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Reuters agency, the United States has expressed readiness to de facto recognize Russia's control over Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson regions as part of proposals to settle the conflict in Ukraine.
This information is contained in a draft that was presented by Donald Trump's special presidential envoy Steven Witkoff during negotiations in Paris on April 17. According to the document, Washington is also ready to legally recognize Russian jurisdiction over the Crimean peninsula. At the same time, the draft agreement provides for the return of Kharkiv region territory, Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine's control, as well as ensuring Kyiv's ability to navigate the Dnipro River.
The article also indicates that European partners and Ukraine have demanded Washington provide security guarantees similar to the provisions of Article Five of the North Atlantic Treaty.
