Destructive natural disaster: monsoon rains in Pakistan claim 279 lives, hundreds injured
As reported by TUT.AZ, Pakistani media report catastrophic consequences of torrential monsoon rains that have hit the country since the end of June.
The disaster has left a trail of destruction: more than 1,500 buildings damaged, hundreds of residents forced to leave their homes. Significant damage has been caused to the country's livestock and agricultural sectors.
The most severe situation is in Punjab, where 151 deaths and 536 injuries have been recorded. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also been seriously affected: 64 people died there, and another 80 were injured.
The Pakistani government is actively implementing a set of measures to ensure the safety of the population and minimize the consequences of the natural disaster. Concern is raised by meteorologists' forecasts warning of continued heavy rains in the coming days.
The monsoon season, which annually covers South Asia from June to September, is traditionally accompanied by large-scale destruction and human casualties.
