In Myanmar, an astrologer was arrested for a fake prediction of a new earthquake

Astrologer from Myanmar arrested for "predicting" an earthquake that caused mass panic

Myanmar authorities have detained a local astrologer, John Mo The, who frightened the population with his "prediction" of an impending earthquake. His forecast spread rapidly on TikTok and sowed fear among residents, especially against the backdrop of a recent powerful earthquake that occurred in the country last month.

As reported by TUT.AZ, according to BBC.

The astrologer published his alarming "prediction" on April 9, just two weeks after the March earthquake. John Mo The claimed that on April 21, the disaster would "hit every city in Myanmar," and strongly urged the population to "gather belongings and run away from buildings."

Despite seismologists unanimously stating that it is impossible to predict earthquakes, the astrologer's video garnered more than 3 million views. Many residents believed the prediction and refused to stay in their homes on the specified day, setting up temporary camps on the streets.

John Mo The was arrested on charges of "false statements with the intent to cause public panic." His TikTok account has now been deleted.
