Google Chrome browser has a potential buyer

As part of a high-profile antitrust case against Google in a Washington federal court, an unexpected statement was made: Perplexity's Chief Business Officer Dmitry Shevelenko expressed willingness to acquire the Chrome browser if the court decides to order its sale. The US Department of Justice is insisting on the forced sale of Chrome as one of the key measures to break the tech giant's monopoly in the market.

As TUT.AZ reports, this was announced by The Verge.

Interest in acquiring the popular browser was previously shown by OpenAI, whose representatives emphasized that integration with Chrome could significantly improve the quality of their products. In turn, Google warns about possible negative consequences of such a deal, including the risk of introducing fees for using the browser and potential reduction in service quality.

Dmitry Shevelenko assured the public that if Chrome comes under Perplexity's control, the company will maintain the browser's accessibility and high quality. He also drew attention to the fact that Google's current market dominance is largely secured through exclusive agreements with electronic device manufacturers, which creates serious obstacles to healthy competition.

Shortly before the court hearings began, Shevelenko published a statement on his LinkedIn page expressing the opinion that breaking up Google is not the optimal solution to the monopolization problem.
