European Commission Head Promised to Present a Plan for a Complete Ban on Gas from Russia in the EU

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a firm intention to present the long-awaited plan for a complete phase-out of Russian gas in just two weeks, putting an end to a series of postponements of this important document.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to TASS, this statement was made during the EC head's speech at a prestigious energy forum in London.

"The EC will publish a roadmap of practical measures for the gradual phase-out of fossil fuel imports from Russia in two weeks," von der Leyen emphasized.

It should be noted that in fact, this exclusively concerns gas supplies, since the European Union has already imposed a complete embargo on purchases of Russian oil since December 2022, and petroleum products since March 2023.

Notably, the European Commission had promised to publish the plan for a complete ban on Russian gas back in early March, but since then the publication of this strategic document has been postponed twice.
