Chinese Citizens Warned About Possible Surveillance Through Souvenirs

China's Ministry of State Security warns: foreign souvenirs may turn out to be spy devices. This is reported by Xinhua news agency.

"Foreign intelligence services actively disguise surveillance tools as ordinary small items — backpack pendants, keychains, necklaces, and earrings. These devices are capable of determining location and conducting real-time eavesdropping," – the official statement says.

The agency specifically noted that such souvenirs may be deliberately distributed among certain categories of citizens, including government officials and employees of secret units.

Teachers and students of research institutions are also at risk, the ministry warns.
