After Victory Day: Kyiv prepares for Oreshnik strike, USA raises alarm

May 10, 2025, Kyiv - The situation in Ukraine has sharply deteriorated following an alarming signal from the American embassy. On May 9, Victory Day, the US diplomatic mission in Kyiv distributed an emergency notification to its citizens: to seek shelter immediately at the first signs of an air raid alert. As practice shows, such warnings are never groundless.

According to sources in Ukrainian intelligence and military circles, this may involve the possible use of the "Oreshnik" missile - a rare and powerful weapon that was already used in November last year against the "Yuzhmash" facility in Dnipro. At that time, the strike on the strategic enterprise caused wide international resonance.

"Oreshnik" is the unofficial name for the newest Russian hypersonic missile, which, according to some data, was developed specifically to hit highly protected or symbolically significant targets. First used in autumn 2024, it has long been absent from military reports, allowing analysts to speak of its "one-time intimidation effect."

Now, as the ceasefire timed to May 9 has expired, and the US is signaling danger, fears of a repeated strike are growing in Kyiv. A particularly worrying factor is the increased activity of Russian long-range complexes in southern regions, detected by Western satellites.

The Ukrainian side suggests that the strike may be timed to coincide with the end of the "symbolic ceasefire", which, according to the Kremlin's statements, was in effect until the night of May 9-10. Despite its non-observance by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the date itself retains historical significance for both Russia and the West.

Sources in Western diplomatic circles also report that the US, Germany, and France are considering the possibility of issuing an ultimatum to Russia: a temporary ceasefire in exchange for refraining from using high-precision weapons, including "Oreshnik." Moscow, through press secretary Dmitry Peskov, has already made it clear: Russia will not accept any unilateral conditions.

Military experts emphasize that "Oreshnik" is not needed for typical combat tasks - "Iskanders," Iranian Shaheds, or North Korean missiles exist for this purpose. The repeated use of this rare weapon may indicate that the target has exceptional importance - both political and symbolic.

Kyiv has already strengthened air defense around the government quarter and critical energy facilities. City residents are actively sharing screenshots of notifications from the American embassy on social media with a direct warning: "Be ready to take shelter. Potential threat of a high-precision attack."

Against the backdrop of growing informational and military tension, May 10 could become a turning point. Whether this day will mark a new round of escalation or a demonstration of force - the answer will be received in the next 24 hours.
