The strongest magnetic storm in two months has ended on Earth

The most powerful magnetic storm in two months has completed its impact on Earth. This information was provided by specialists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The cosmic phenomenon lasted more than 30 hours, reaching at its culmination a level of G2.0, which is classified as a storm of moderate intensity. However, this was the highest indicator since a similar event observed on June 13-14.

According to scientific data, on the morning of August 10 Moscow time, the geomagnetic environment returned to its normal state, and the corresponding indices have been in the safe "green zone" for about ten hours. Nevertheless, scientists note that our planet is still experiencing the influence of coronal holes on the Sun, due to which the solar wind speed exceeds normative indicators by approximately 50%.

The scientific community warns that fluctuations in temperature and induction of the interplanetary magnetic field may persist until the middle of next week, which significantly increases the probability of new geomagnetic disturbances.
