Breakthrough in pediatric surgery: Irkutsk doctors used a robot for the first time to remove a cyst from a five-year-old patient
Doctors in Irkutsk have achieved a true medical breakthrough by performing a unique operation using a surgical robot. The specialists skillfully removed a cyst from the intestine of a five-year-old child using high-tech equipment.
The use of the cyber-assistant allowed surgeons to perform the intervention through a minimal incision and apply perfect sutures without significant blood loss in an extremely limited operating space. These advantages make the robot indispensable in such complex cases.
During the operation, the surgeon was next to the patient and controlled the robot's movements using a special joystick. The entire procedure took only about 40 minutes, and the little patient's full recovery is expected in record short time — no more than three days.
Particularly noteworthy is that such robotic systems are installed in only a few medical institutions in Russia, and until now they have all been used only for treating adult patients. The Irkutsk hospital became the first pediatric medical institution in the country where a surgical robot appeared and was successfully used.
