Scientists have discovered a link between natural juice consumption and an increased risk of breast cancer - this discovery was made by researchers based on a large-scale prospective study covering more than 86 thousand women.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, the scientific team monitored the health of participants for about 10 years, during which 2644 new cases of breast cancer were identified. The study showed that women who drank up to one glass of fruit or vegetable juice daily had a 13% higher risk of developing the disease compared to those who did not drink such beverages at all.
Interestingly, sugary sodas and drinks with artificial sweeteners did not show a statistically significant association with the likelihood of breast cancer.
More detailed analysis revealed that replacing a daily portion of juice with an artificially sweetened drink was associated with approximately a 10% reduction in disease risk.
The researchers specifically note that the results obtained indicate only a statistical correlation, not a direct causal relationship, and emphasize the importance of conducting additional research to establish possible biological mechanisms of this phenomenon.
