NASA experts sound the alarm: ISS has entered the most dangerous period of its existence

This is reported by SpaceNews.

"The ISS has entered the most risky period of its existence," said Rich Williams, a member of NASA's Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel, emphasizing that "risks are increasing" for the orbital laboratory.

Specialists highlight several key problems, including the long-known leaks in the intermediate chamber of the Russian "Zvezda" module. Serious concern is also caused by the lack of a clear plan for safely deorbiting the station. In addition, experts are worried about the sufficiency of spare parts to maintain the operability of critical ISS systems.

On April 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the existence of various scenarios for ending the ISS operation. Without revealing details, he noted that the final decision would be made in coordination with international partners.

On April 12, it became known that Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov and NASA deputy administrator Ken Bowersox agreed to synchronize the timeframes for the International Space Station's operation.

According to Bakanov, ensuring the continuity of the manned space program is critically important for Russia. The head of Roscosmos also emphasized that the priority task for the country is the creation of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), which should replace the ISS.
