Magnetic storm approaching: scientists raise alarm before the weekend
# Geomagnetic Forecast for the Weekend: Calm Before the Storm
**The weekend of February 7 and 8 promises a relatively calm geomagnetic environment, however one shouldn't let their guard down — a brief magnetic storm may still arrive.**
This data is provided by the British Geological Survey.
As scientists note, the solar wind is currently blowing at an elevated speed — the cause being a high-speed stream bursting from a coronal hole on the Sun. However, its intensity should begin to decrease in the coming days.
Space weather forecasters predict a generally calm geomagnetic background for the next several days. However, activity spikes cannot be completely ruled out — the residual influence of the coronal hole may periodically make itself felt.
Specialists draw particular attention to February 8: on this day a G1-level magnetic storm is possible. This will occur if a coronal mass ejection reaches Earth.
