Sensational discovery: hair color may influence the rate of aging in the body. Scientists have found an unexpected connection between hair shade and the duration of youth, establishing a correlation with the activity of genes responsible for cell aging and hormonal balance.
The greatest interest of researchers was drawn to owners of fiery-red locks. The results of the scientific work showed that red-haired people have an increased concentration of pheomelanin with relatively low levels of vitamin D, which significantly affects metabolic processes. At the same time, scientists note a surprising fact: representatives of this group demonstrate slowed aging of the skin and less tendency to form wrinkles in old age compared to others.
As for blonds and blondes, their skin is often characterized by less thickness and increased sensitivity to sunlight, which potentially accelerates the appearance of age-related changes. However, elevated estrogen levels, especially characteristic of light-haired women, contribute to longer preservation of youthful skin and a slender figure.
Owners of dark hair – brunettes and chestnut-haired individuals – can boast the most harmonious hormonal background and dense, well-pigmented skin. These features provide them with increased protection against photoaging and help maintain skin elasticity longer.
Specialists emphasize that hair color is not a determining factor of youth. Lifestyle, diet, stress levels, and genetic predisposition are of decisive importance. Nevertheless, systematic observations of groups of people with different hair colors allow for a deeper understanding of individual aging mechanisms and the development of personalized self-care strategies.
