Extremely rare sea fish washed up on California beach — witnesses shocked

California, April 2025 - Beachgoers on one of the state's beaches discovered a mysterious deep-sea fish with a terrifying appearance. The creature resembled a horror movie character: sharp teeth, spikes along its body, and black lifeless eyes.

"At first it looked like plastic or marine debris. But when we got closer - I screamed. It had teeth like a shark," says 34-year-old Jessica Moore, one of the witnesses.

According to preliminary expert assessments, this is a representative of a rare species of sea devils (Lat. Melanocetus). These fish live at depths of more than 1000 meters and very rarely come to the surface. The main feature of the species is a glowing "lantern" on the head, which they use to lure prey in complete darkness.

"In 20 years of work, I haven't seen anything like it. This creature seems like it's from another planet," commented Ray Devereaux, an employee of the conservation service.

The fish's body was promptly frozen and will be transferred to a museum in the coming days. Scientists plan to study the creature's structure in more detail and present it at an exhibition.

📌 Interesting fact:

This type of fish appeared in the animated film "Finding Nemo" - where it also looked frightening. Only in reality, it's much scarier.
