Flaxseed showed impressive results in fighting diabetes: scientists revealed its effect on sugar and cholesterol

The study involved adult patients with poorly controlled diabetes - a condition in which blood sugar levels remain high despite treatment. For three months, one group daily received 16 g of ground flaxseed in addition to standard therapy, while the control group followed usual recommendations.

The results were striking: participants who consumed flax experienced significant reductions in fasting glucose levels, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. The glycated hemoglobin indicator, which reflects average blood sugar levels over recent months, also improved. No such changes were observed in the control group - many patients continued to have elevated glucose and blood lipid levels.

The authors attribute the positive effect to the high content of soluble fiber and bioactive compounds in flaxseed, which affect glucose and fat metabolism and can increase tissue sensitivity to insulin.

Researchers emphasize that flaxseed does not replace medical treatment for diabetes. However, regularly adding it to the diet can be a simple and accessible way to further support metabolic control in people with diabetes, prediabetes, and excess weight.
