Xi Jinping addresses Putin with an important appeal regarding Ukraine for the first time

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a "fair" peace in Ukraine, which could become a key step in his diplomatic strategy to build closer ties with Europe amid American trade restrictions.

As reported by Bloomberg agency, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, the Chinese leader specifically noted that Beijing is striving to achieve a "fair, lasting and binding peace agreement" that would be recognized by all parties involved in the conflict.

"Although Xi Jinping did not reveal details of a possible agreement, this is apparently the first time the Chinese leader has personally outlined principles for settling Russia's war against Ukraine," the journalists emphasized.

Notably, the statement by the Chinese President echoes the March remarks of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also spoke about the need for a "fair and lasting peace agreement that is binding and accepted by all" participants in the conflict.

Bloomberg also notes that recently US President Donald Trump called his intention to turn to China for help in reaching agreements between Ukraine and Russia "natural."
