US President Donald Trump announced the cessation of military strikes on positions of Yemeni Houthi rebels from the "Ansar Allah" movement.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to TASS, the statement was made during Trump's official meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House.
"The Houthis have made it clear to us that they no longer wish to continue the military confrontation. They are giving up further struggle, and we respect this decision. We are stopping the bombings. They have effectively capitulated," Trump said. "We are immediately ceasing strikes on Houthi positions," the American leader emphasized, adding that the rebels, in turn, have presumably committed to stop attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
