The IRGC stayed aside for the first time in 46 years: what will Mousavis arrival change?

In the new issue of the "Military Chronicle" section, military journalist Fardin Isazade analyzed the most important changes in Iran's military leadership after the appointment of General Abdulrahim Musavi to the position of Chief of the General Staff, replacing Mohammad Bageri who was killed in an Israeli strike.

According to the expert, this personnel decision breaks the long-standing traditions of forming the military leadership of the Islamic Republic.

"After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, all heads of the General Staff were figures directly or indirectly connected to the IRGC. Musavi, however, is a professional military man who was formed in Iran's classical and non-politicized army - 'Artesh'. He began his service in 1980 and for many years led the air defense forces. This appointment indicates serious changes in the internal military balance that Iranian authorities have built and maintained for many years," noted the journalist.

F.Isazade emphasized that Musavi's arrival could significantly influence not only the structure of the army but also the distribution of influence within the IRGC and the principle of political-ideological stability.
