The diploma of the arrested mayor of Istanbul disappeared from the university database

Istanbul University suddenly erased the diploma data of arrested mayor Imamoglu from the electronic system

As reported by TUT.AZ, citing the publication Sabah, Istanbul University unexpectedly removed all information about Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu's higher education from its electronic database.

When attempting to find information about the politician's education, the system now only shows data about his high school graduation, completely excluding any mentions of a university diploma.

According to the Turkish Constitution, only citizens who have received a higher education diploma can run for president. Thus, the removal of the document effectively deprives Imamoglu of the opportunity to register as a candidate for head of state.

On March 23, the court issued a decision to arrest Imamoglu. Recall that he is considered the main political opponent of the current Turkish President Recep Erdogan and was viewed by the opposition as a potential candidate in future presidential elections. The mayor's arrest triggered a wave of large-scale protests in Istanbul and other cities across the country.
