Amazing mirage of "Flying Dutchmen" spotted in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Kaliningrad region
According to TUT.AZ, the Telegram channel Amber Mash published captivating footage of an unusual natural phenomenon near the Russian coast.
The presented photographs capture ships that appear to be hovering in the air above the sea surface. This fascinating spectacle is a rare optical illusion that occurs under special conditions when layers of air at different temperatures refract light rays.
In maritime tradition, such mirages are called "fata morgana" - a name derived from the sorceress Morgan from Arthurian legends. The phenomenon forms due to several consecutive layers of air with varying densities, creating the effect of a natural mirror.
As a result of this amazing atmospheric phenomenon, objects located far beyond the horizon line are projected as distorted images that can bizarrely overlap each other and rapidly transform, captivating the imagination of observers.
