Media: Trump intends to meet with Putin next week

US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Vladimir Putin as early as next week

According to the reputable publication The New York Times, citing informed sources, the White House head intends to hold personal negotiations with the Russian leader in the near future.

According to the newspaper, Trump shared his intentions during a telephone conference held on Wednesday with key European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This important conversation also included British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The American side, in addition to the president, was represented by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.

"Trump expects to meet with Putin, and shortly after that - to hold a trilateral meeting with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky," the publication emphasizes.

At the moment, it remains unknown whether the American leader has received consent from Putin or Zelensky to implement this diplomatic plan, the newspaper notes.

The publication also indicates that Trump has been attempting to engage Putin in direct dialogue for several months. However, recently the American president publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the Russian leader's actions, stating that Putin is merely stalling after numerous contacts with Witkoff.

The latest visit of Trump's special envoy to the Russian capital took place under conditions where the American president threatened to impose secondary sanctions against Russia due to the lack of notable progress toward a peaceful settlement.
