Iceland is considering strengthening its defense and returning to negotiations on EU membership against the backdrop of the US administration's foreign policy.
As reported by TUT.AZ, citing The Wall Street Journal, the island nation is reviewing its strategic priorities.
The publication emphasizes that US President Donald Trump's statements about intentions to acquire Danish Greenland, the introduction of trade tariffs, and tense relations with European partners are causing growing concern among Icelanders.
Iceland's Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir noted that although the public has traditionally not shown active support for military forces, this does not exclude the possibility for the country to strengthen its defense potential and participate in international alliances.
Recall that Trump has repeatedly spoken about the need to include Canada and Greenland as part of the United States. In addition, he stated plans to return the Panama Canal under American control. These statements provoked a sharp reaction from the governments of Panama, Canada, and Denmark.
