Tragedy in Tbilisi: Collapse of a Five-Story Building Leads to Casualties

On Monday, residents of the Georgian capital witnessed a dramatic incident - a five-story residential building collapsed near the Tbilisi railway station. Emergency services arrived at the scene immediately.

"There may be human casualties. Updated information will be available soon," the director of the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vazha Siradze, told journalists, confirming that active rescue operations and evacuation of residents are currently underway.

Later, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze confirmed the tragic consequences of the collapse: one person died, and another victim was taken to the hospital.

"This building was in an emergency condition, and the city hall repeatedly approached the residents with an offer to provide them with apartments elsewhere. However, some residents refused this offer," Kaladze explained, commenting on the situation.

Currently, the area around the destroyed building is being cleared, and rescuers continue the search and rescue operation, trying to find possible victims under the rubble.
