It turns out that just ten minutes of walking at a moderate pace can significantly ease the digestion process. This simple activity improves the movement of food through the gastrointestinal tract and reduces pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter. As a result, the likelihood of acid stomach contents flowing back into the esophagus decreases — it is this process that causes the familiar unpleasant burning sensation in the chest and throat. Heartburn is especially common after heavy meals, consumption of coffee, carbonated drinks, or when bending the body forward.

Viola emphasizes that during such simple physical activity as walking, the motility of the entire digestive tract significantly improves. This not only helps with heartburn but also effectively eliminates bloating, feelings of heaviness, and even helps with constipation.

"Walks don't necessarily have to be long, but regularity is important for optimal effect," the expert concluded.
