Scientists explained whether human life up to 200 years is possible

The human lifespan could theoretically be extended to 200 years, however such a long life would be accompanied by new biological and medical challenges, foreign scientists believe. Evolutionary biologist, Professor at City University of Hong Kong Petr Lidsky stated this in a media interview.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Gazeta.Ru, according to the scientist, classical theories of aging suggest that complete physiological rejuvenation of humans is impossible. Nevertheless, the existence of organisms capable of biological "renewal," such as jellyfish, comb jellies, and some species of insects, gives grounds to hope that science will be able to significantly extend human life.

The expert emphasized that it is still unclear whether it will ever be possible to completely rejuvenate the human body. However, he considers the possibility of substantially increasing lifespan to be quite realistic. At the same time, the professor is confident that reaching the age of 200 years is theoretically possible.

At the same time, the scientist draws attention to an important nuance: the structures of the human body are initially not designed for such prolonged existence. This means that with an extremely long life, tissue damage and disorders may appear that modern medicine has not yet encountered.

Among the potential risks, Lidsky highlights an increase in the probability of oncological diseases. According to available data, the risk of developing cancer increases not only due to aging, but also due to the very factor of time. Nevertheless, the professor expressed confidence that most such medical problems will be able to be solved in the future thanks to the development of science and technology.
