Key risk factors for heart attack and stroke identified

Heart attack and stroke have a long "prehistory": cardiologists revealed the mechanism of risk accumulation. This is reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Gazeta.Ru".

Cardiologist Elizaveta Rogozhkina revealed important information: myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke do not occur suddenly, but are the result of a long pathological process - atherosclerosis. With this disease, the walls of the arteries gradually thicken, lose their elasticity, and dangerous lipid plaques form inside the vessels. It is these formations that narrow the lumen of the arteries and disrupt blood flow: when a vessel feeding the heart is blocked - a heart attack develops, if an artery supplying the brain is blocked - an ischemic stroke occurs.

Among the controllable risk factors, the specialist highlighted chronic stress, insufficient sleep, and excessive consumption of saturated and trans fats. All these components contribute to an increase in "bad" cholesterol and accelerate the progression of the atherosclerotic process.

Arterial hypertension, tobacco smoking, diabetes mellitus, and insulin resistance significantly increase the likelihood of vascular catastrophes. These conditions cause significant damage to vascular walls and accelerate the process of vascular aging. People with obesity and low physical activity are also in the high-risk group.

Medical experts emphasize that timely abandonment of bad habits, regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels, as well as maintaining physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of developing dangerous cardiovascular complications.
